Welcome to Open Play! Book a seat at an open-play table or reserve a table for your group. All skill levels welcome and seat assignments will be made accordingly, if booking solo. Leave your stress at the door, shuffle those tiles, and settle in for an evening of laughter, new friends, and plenty of mahjong! Open Play is all about enjoying the game—not keeping score. Whether you're still celebrating your first successful Charleston or you've been calling mahjong for years, everyone is welcome at the table. Think of tonight as your favorite neighborhood game night: relaxed, social, and full of opportunities to learn from one another, meet new players, and enjoy the satisfying click-clack of beautiful tiles. So grab a seat, have fun, and remember—the best win of the night is leaving with a smile and a few new mahjong friends. Open Play Guidelines Open Play is all about fun! This is a casual environment designed for socializing, practicing, and enjoying the game. We welcome everyone—from players with only a few games under their belt to seasoned mahjong veterans. Blank tiles will be available at most tables. The four players at each table can decide together whether to use them or set them aside. Share the fun. If players are waiting for a seat, the moderator may ask for a volunteer to rotate out after your table completes a hand. We've got you covered. All mahjong equipment is provided. Players will need a 2026 NMJL Card. Keep it kind and courteous. Please help maintain a pleasant atmosphere by avoiding kibitzing (coaching other players), giving a running commentary on your hand, or lamenting those "terrible tiles" a little too loudly. Friendly over fierce. We all have a competitive streak, but tonight is about camaraderie, learning, and having fun together. Celebrate great hands, laugh off the tough ones, and enjoy the game!
